Heirloom variety.
Produces flat-toothed, grey-green leaves with a central purple stem. The colour intensifies as temperature decreases but turns a rich dark green when cooked.
Sow directly outdoors in a sunny site in mid-spring when soil has warmed but the weather is still cool.
The vitamin rich leaves have a soft tender texture when braised, or for use in salads. Good winter hardiness allows for long harvest.
