Marketmore 76 cucumber seeds yield a smooth, refined, dark-green slicer with a crisp crunch and sweet flavour (makes great pickles). This is an early maturing cucumber that grows to 20-23cm (8-9″) long with slightly shorter vines than other varieties so you can space them more densely and get a higher yield in a small garden. We found Marketmore 76 very productive in greenhouse trials as well as in raised beds. The small seed cavity can be quickly removed by running a spoon down the length of each side. High quality European pickling cucumber bearing loads of dark green fruit with fine spines. Anya can be harvested at a range of sizes, from gherkin to large pickle, maintaining its uniform shape and quality throughout. Parthenocarpic plants perform well in a high tunnel or greenhouse, and in the open field or garden. Improved productivity and uniformity compared to open pollinated varieties. Excellent disease package.

Pale green, heavily ribbed fruit has the fresh flavour, texture, and shape of a long slender cucumber but is genetically a melon. These 30-45cm (12-18”) fruit will likely curl when grown on the ground but will grow straighter if trellised. Monoecious plants bear both male and female flowers.

Patio Snacker cucumber seeds produce compact little plants that grow to only 90-150cm (36-60″), but producing numerous full-sized slicing cucumbers from mid-summer on. Trellis the little plants, or try them in a hanging basket and allow the short vines to spill over the sides. Patio Snacker is a parthenocarpic variety, bred with the small-space gardener in mind, so it’s ideal for balcony growing. Be sure to keep the plants picked so that new flowers and fruits continue to come.

Bolero carrot seeds are a great variety for home or market. Very sweet and crunchy, it is a good keeper in storage or in the ground. Roots are bright orange, up to 20cm (8″) long, and slightly tapered, with the typical blunt Nantes tip. High level of resistance to Alternaria blights and powdery mildew. Very tasty! Our Bolero carrot seeds are also available as pelleted seeds for easier handling. This variety is something of an industry standard. Because of their hybrid uniformity, they are very attractive to market growers. We think the flavour is so superb that these carrots are a nice choice for the home gardener as well. The ultimate in baby carrots, Little Fingers is a fast-maturing Nantes type with smooth, golden orange skins, crisp texture, and a tender core. Short at 10cm (4″), Little Fingers carrot seeds are well suited to container growing and may succeed in heavier soils. For best results, plant these gourmet carrots in well-cultivated soil from March to July for continuous harvests right into early winter. The sweet flavoured, uniform roots are perfect for pickling, or eating fresh out of the garden.

Bred in France to develop their characteristic orange colour earlier than other varieties, these carrots can be harvested early at 8-9cm (3-3.5″). Don’t let them stay in the ground beyond around 68 days or they begin to lose their gourmet qualities.

Apium graveolens secalinum. This cutting leaf celery is like the European cousin to our Chinese Yellow Stem . Both are grown for their leaves, not the crunchy stalks. Amsterdam Cutting Leaf Celery is a Dutch heirloom that is used traditionally to flavour soups and stews. It has larger leaves than stalk celery, and these can be harvested a handful at a time, as needed, rather than cutting the whole plant. The flavour is also more pronounced, a little bit similar to Italian parsley. The stems are hollow and can be quite fibrous, but they are excellent for making stock. This annual plant deserves a place in the herb garden.

An early and disease resistant celery that’s slow to bolt, Tall Utah 52-70 celery seeds produce really tall plants. Utah 52-70 is a tall, medium dark green celery with long, thick stalks that are sweet and crunchy. Overall plant height can be up to 75cm (30″), with the first joint appearing 26-28cm (10-11″) up on the plants. This variety develops strong roots with good heart development. It holds its form and colour in the field well, and is strongly flavoured for use in the kitchen. Tall Utah 53-70 is recommended for home garden as well as commercial farm use, and produces impressive stalks with good market potential. It first appeared on the market in 1953, so technically it’s an heirloom variety.

SUMMER HARVEST. Expect early and extra tender leaves from Tiara cabbage seeds. An improved early first cabbage with wonderful hybrid uniformity and excellent holding ability. Tiara supports a dense cabbage head with a short internal core. This cabbage holds well in the field. This improved Detroit Medium Top is known for its deep red roots with smooth skin and medium tops. The tasty, nutritious leaves are dark green with red veins and a small crown. Detroit Supreme beet seeds produce roots with minimal zoning (visible rings in cross section) even in hot weather. Detroit Supreme was bred to be mildew resistant for either processing or fresh market production. Because the roots are so uniform and dark, they look fabulous bunched for the market table. Early Wonder Tall Top beet seeds beets adapt to all seasons but are especially good in early spring with quick growth in chilly soils. They produce tall, tasty green leaves with red stems and slightly flattened roots with wonderfully sweet flavour. Early Wonder Tall Top beets makes a good variety for general table use. Grow as micro-greens or baby leaf greens for salad mixes, or enjoy the sweet round roots at full size. Be sure to thin the planted row to allow each root the room it needs to grow to full size.
