Pink Brandywine Organic tomato represent one of the most celebrated heirloom seeds of all. The productive plants mature later in the season, but the large beefsteak fruits can weigh up to one pound each, and it’s not uncommon for a single plant to bear over 20 fruits. The richly flavoured fruits have ribbed shoulders, and a soft texture with creamy smooth flesh. Provide strong support for this potato-leaf vine variety.

Indeterminate (vine) Matures in 85 days.

Dating back to 1930s West Virginia, this classic heirloom beefsteak has pinkish skin, few seeds, and superb tomato flavour. Mortgage Lifter fruits are generally free from cracking and average 454g (1-2lbs) each. They mature a little later in the season, but the classic heirloom tomato flavour is worth the wait. Provide sturdy support for this climber that usually grows over 90cm (3′) tall.

Pink Bumble Bee Organic tomato seeds are CERTIFIED ORGANIC! Gorgeous pink cherry tomatoes streaked with yellow, hang in trusses on tall, productive plants. Chefs will enjoy their stunning visual appeal and sweet flavour. This is a great bet for market growers and home gardeners alike. This variety will work in a five gallon (or larger) container, but be sure to provide trellis support, as it forms a vigorous vine. Keep the fruits picked, and the plants will continue producing crack resistant fruit until late summer.

This organic, high quality Italian heirloom has incredible flavour. San Marzano Lampadina”s elongated (4-6oz) red tomatoes have firm pulp and thick skin, perfect for canning or making sauces and paste. The vines of this traditional San Marzano type are vigorous and indeterminate. Once you taste this fantastic tomato, you’ll wish you had twice as many plants. The fruits also keep for ages due to their low water content.

Indeterminate (vine) Matures in 80 days.

Gardener’s Delight cherry tomato has a wonderful, old-fashioned flavour and produces long trusses laden with clusters of 6-12 2.5cm (1″), crack-resistant, bright-red morsels. A mid-maturity variety that can be grown in many regions without protection.

Vine (indeterminate), Matures in 65 days.

A Vietnamese-type bitter gourd, also known as balsam pear and bitter melon, Green Pearl is early to ripen its 22-30cm (9-12”) shiny green, warty fruit. Scrape the white seeds and pith out and chop into bite size pieces for use in soups and stir fries. Grow on a trellis for straight fruit

C. maxima. Uchiki Red Kuri Organic squash seeds are CERTIFIED ORGANIC. This is a Japanese type Hubbard (red kuri), with dark, red/orange skin over tasty, cream coloured flesh. Popular in Japanese and Thai dishes, the flesh is flavourful and firm, and never stringy. Uchiki kuri squash plants are productive and robust in this climate. Sometimes known as “onion squash,” the fruits average 1.5kg (just over 3 lbs) each. This is a very early maturing squash. In our trials, May sown plants are finished by September 1st, with three or more fruits per plant.

Matures in 100 days.

Renegade Organic spinach seeds are CERTIFIED ORGANIC! Renegade spinach is a bolt resistant hybrid with smooth, oval, dark green leaves on short stems. It has the same fine taste as Corvair, but grows slower, making it a good all-season option. And Renegade Organic’s excellent resistance to downy mildew makes it your best choice for high tunnel production during winter. Bred and produced in Washington State, this variety will stand up to the dampest, coolest conditions, and last well into late spring without bolting. It stood out for us at the local seed trials, and has excellent flavour. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

Helenor Organic rutabaga seeds are CERTIFIED ORGANIC! The colour develops early on these nice, uniform, round roots. The flesh is light orange and sweetly flavoured. Helenor is an excellent choice for fall and winter harvests.

Rutabagas are surprisingly versatile in the kitchen and are widely used around the northern hemisphere. They can be julienned and eaten raw as a side salad, or roasted, boiled, or grilled. Many recipes call for mashing rutabagas after cooking, and the classic Scottish dish neeps and tatties combines them with mashed potato. It is a useful winter source of vitamin C, and the roots will store for months.

Pearl is the perfect name for this classy, refined, pure white radish. Pearl holds its round shape better than other white varieties, even in less-than-optimal conditions. Mild flavour with a hint of heat. Strong tops for easy harvest and bunching.

A deep, dark green, almost black, jalapeño that has mild spicy flavour with a floral note. Black Magic’s medium sized plants are highly productive, yielding an impressive number of 7-9cm (3-3.5″), thick-walled fruits that feature some small scars on their skin called corking. If left unharvested, fruits will eventually mature to red. Approximately 2500 SHUs.

This organic Dutch heirloom is a multi-purpose pea. Purple Mist’s young pods can be enjoyed as snow peas, or the pods can be left to develop their unusual purple colour for mid-season shelling peas. Once the peas have fully matured inside the pod, they can be shelled and dried and used as soup peas all winter long. The 1.5-2m (5-6′) tall vines should be trellised and can be enjoyed as a striking ornamental, too. Purple Mist organic pea seeds are not enation resistant.

Matures in 80-85 days.

Abelmoschus esculentus. By far the most popular cultivated variety of okra, Clemson Spineless Okra Organic is an heirloom that won the AAS prize back in 1939. Over a short period in the heat of summer, plants will grow quickly to 1.2m (4′), and are covered in edible, cream coloured flowers. These are followed by meaty, strongly flavoured pods that add brilliant texture to relishes and chutneys, but also complement stews, soups, and gumbo. Plants really are spineless and are very easy to grow.

Matures in 60 days.

Matures in 35-40 days.

An all-season medium to large red leaf that performs well through the summer. New Red Fire produces uniform, heavy heads of ruffled, dark pink leaves with just a peak of green at the base. Slow, steady growth in the heat without bolting. A great organic option if you’d like a classic, red leaf lettuce.
