Asters – The Blues Mix – West Coast Seeds

Nasturtiums – Baby Rose – West Coast Seeds

Sunflowers – Mongolian Giant Organic – West Coast Seeds

Zinnias – Sanguinea Cupcake – West Coast Seeds

Zinnias – Lemon Cupcake – West Coast Seeds

Zinnias – Soleado – West Coast Seeds
$3.49Zinnia haageana. Planting Soleado zinnia seeds in the spring results in a jubilant display of single flowers with two-tone orange petals surrounding concentric circles of mahogany and yellow. The plants are tougher than other Zinnias and will stand up to nearly any weather conditions, blooming right into fall. Plant height to 45cm (18″). Direct sow after last frost, in April and May on the coast. Zinnias don’t transplant well, but you can try starting some indoors in peat or coir pots 6-8 weeks before planting out. Maintain a soil temperature of 21-26°C (70-80°F). Seeds should germinate in 5-24 days.

Alyssum – Dwarf Purple – West Coast Seeds
$3.49Lobularia maritima ‘Royal Carpet.’ This heirloom AAS winner produces a low-growing carpet of lovely, mauve, scented flowers that stays only 5-10cm (2-4″) tall. Sow Dwarf Purple Alyssum seeds around the edge of veggie beds to improve pollination, or sprinkle them between cracks and paving stones to fill in with a moss-like appearance, followed by scores of tiny purple flowers. This Alyssum works well in containers and window boxes. It has a spreading habit, so is useful as a plant to fill in spaces between others. It is attractive to both pollinators and beneficial insects, making it generally useful to have in the garden.

Gilia – Bird’s Eye – West Coast Seeds

Bird’s Eyes Gilia seeds are a charming California native wildflower that blooms from spring to mid-summer, producing long-lasting stems of chocolate-scented blue flowers with dark centres. These rise above the ferny foliage and open in sunshine, but close on cloudy days. This easy to grow, nectar-rich annual is attractive to bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. It will grow in any sandy, well-drained soil and is suitable for xeriscaping. Suitable for Zones 6 to 10, with a preference for milder weather. Viola – Johnny Jump Up – West Coast Seeds
$3.29Viola cornuta. These perky little flowers are old-fashioned heirloom favourites and look like miniature pansies with lavender, yellow, and white faces. Direct seed Johnny Jump Up viola seeds from April to July. Sow seeds 0.6cm (0.25″) deep, and they should germinate in 12-14 days. Johnny Jump Up viola seeds self sow fairly readily, but they do not take over, and can be easily raked under if unwanted. These look rather good in containers, and their flowers are edible. Sweet Peas – Matucana – West Coast Seeds
$4.99Lathyrus odoratus. Grow some history! These most unusual Italian heirloom sweet peas are bi-coloured violet and deep maroon. Matucana sweet pea seeds are thought to be one of the first sweet peas to be introduced to Britain in 1700 by a Sicilian Monk, Franciscus Cupani. Matucana sweet peas have an intoxicating scent and smaller flowers than many modern varieties that bloom over a long period in summer. Sweet Peas – Supersnoop Mix – West Coast Seeds
$4.69Lathyrus odoratus. Unlike Mammoth, Supersnoop Mix sweet pea seeds produce a compact dwarf variety that is well suited to tubs, containers, and the front of the flower bed. It is an improved Snoopea type that blooms early in a wide range of colours. The plants have no tendrils, so they stay low and compact at 45-60cm (18-24″) tall. Supersnoop produces flowers that are showy and mildly fragrant and well suited for cut flowers. Supersnoop are great for market growers for bundles of cut flowers. Sweet Peas – Early Multiflora Blend – West Coast Seeds

Sweet Peas – Bijou Blend – West Coast Seeds
$4.49Lathyrus odoratus. Its rich colour range is dominated by blues and purples, but accented by the occasional highlight of scarlet or pure white. The stems are long, sturdy and uncommonly straight for excellent cut flowers. The vines are not huge at five feet tall, but larger than described them in our catalogue. We have them on a trellis growing quite upright, and they are still very much in bloom in early August. We rate the fragrance at medium-strong (6/10), but as cut flowers, they are among the best. Keep cutting flowers or removing any seed pods that form in order to prolong the flowering period. Try Bijou sweet peas in large containers to bring colour and fragrance to your patio garden.

Sweet Peas – Painted Lady – West Coast Seeds
$5.49Lathyrus odoratus. The beauty of this bicolour heirloom variety has kept it in cultivation since the 1730s. Painted Lady sweet pea seeds are one of the original cultivars from the Cupani strain. Growing 1.5-2m (5-6′) tall, it has exquisite, highly scented pink and white petals on long stems for cutting. These Ladies prefer cooler weather, so try planting them in early spring, while there is still a risk of frost at night. Sweet Peas – Janet Scott Pink – West Coast Seeds
$6.49Lathyrus odoratus. This grandiflora variety has large, pale pink flowers with intense fragrance. Janet Scott is a famous old heirloom sweet pea that was first introduced by W. Atlee Bupee in 1903. Plant Janet Scott sweet pea seeds and expect flowers that measure 3cm (1″ ) across on vigorous vines that grow 1.8m (6′) tall. Each stem can bear three or four highly fragrant flowers which makes them excellent for cutting. Soak sweet pea seeds for six hours before sowing, and then direct sow in the garden into cool, damp soil. Sow sweet pea seeds as early as March in coastal BC, or start them indoors about that time for transplanting when the soil warms up in your area.
