This old Amish heirloom variety produces a tight bibb-like head with leaves that have a fascinating pattern of bright red speckles on lime green. Leaves grow 25cm tall and have a mild buttery taste.
Sow seed in a sunny or semi-shaded area. Seed can be sown every 2 weeks from April to August as long as the weather is cool. Keep lettuce well watered through the season.
Harvest by cutting off selected leaves or by pulling the entire plant then trimming off the stem with a sharp knife.

From Matchbox: A French heirloom, this variety originated with Norbert Perreira of Helliner, France. elongated cluster of deep orange, 4 oz fruit have a lovely sweet flavour and are well suited to drying and roasting. Another early variety, Jaune Flamme adds a nice colour contrast at the table, both dinner and market. Indeterminate.
