Red Robin tomato seeds produce hardy, compact dwarf plants that deliver high yields of delicious cherry tomatoes. Plants are easy to grow, and best suited for containers whether located indoors or outdoors. While Red Robin tomato plants will deliver the highest yields in outside containers, plants will set fruit in lower light indoor conditions and still deliver moderate yields of sweet cherry tomatoes.

Typically 20-30 cm (8-12″) tall, Red Robin tomato plants make an attractive, ornamental addition to any garden patio, window or balcony. Round scarlet cherry tomatoes 2.5 -4 cm (1-1 1/2″) in diameter set in tight clusters create a striking contrast with dark green potato leaves.

Physalis pruinosa. Sow Aunt Molly’s ground cherry seeds in the spring for a big harvest of sweet ground cherries by late summer. The plants and fruits resemble tomatillos, with each fruit growing inside a papery husk called a calyx. But fruits mature to a golden orange colour, and drop to the ground when ripe. The sweet little fruits will store for up to three months if kept in their husks, but you’ll want to use them faster than that in jams, fruit salads, and sauces. Aunt Molly’s originated in Poland and are productive in coastal gardens.

Matures in 65-70 days.

Clusters of sumptuous, meaty cherry-sized fruits appear in one main set on tall plants that benefit from support. This Tuscan heirloom is one of the finest for sun-dried tomatoes, but the fruits also can particularly well. Try growing some in three-to-five-gallon pots on the balcony, or up against the south facing wall of a house to maximize heat from the sun. This will produce more fruits with better consistent fruit set. The semi-determinate vines benefit from support.

Matures in 75 days.

Sweet Million cherry tomato seeds are easy to grow, and hardy plants adapt well to many climates. Tall vigorous vines grow masses of gorgeous red cherry tomatoes on long trusses. This variety is the winner of the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) Award of Garden Merit. Sweet Million tomato plants mature early and deliver incredible yields of delicious sweet cherry tomatoes all season long. A terrific snacking tomato that’s impossible to resist!

This extremely vigorous plant needs support for climbing habit, pruning may be required for containment in smaller areas. Uniform fruits are 2.5 cm (1″) average 10-15 grams (~1/2 oz.). Sweet Million tomatoes are resistant to, or tolerant of, Fusarium Wilt (Race 1), Tomato (Tobacco) Mosaic Virus.

Super Fantastic tomato seeds produce hardy vigorous vines that adapt well to a variety of climates. Immensely popular and an excellent producer on the West Coast of BC! These rich, meaty beefsteak tomatoes are very versatile – great for slicing, canning, drying and salsas.

Many growers report that seeds from Super Fantastic tomatoes mature fairly early. Blossoms and fruit develop progressively – enjoy prolific yields of delicious sweet, juicy beefsteak tomatoes all season long. Super Fantastic tomatoes have dark red, smooth blemish free, skin. Fruits are uniform in size: 8 -10 cm (3-4″) diameter, weighing on average about 283 grams (10 oz.).

Vigorous vines grow 1.8-2.7 meters (6-9′) tall and require good caging or staking. Super Fantastic tomato seed plants are resistant to, or tolerant of, the following tomato diseases: Verticillium Wilt, Fusarium Wilt and Nematodes.

A Vietnamese-type bitter gourd, also known as balsam pear and bitter melon, Green Pearl is early to ripen its 22-30cm (9-12”) shiny green, warty fruit. Scrape the white seeds and pith out and chop into bite size pieces for use in soups and stir fries. Grow on a trellis for straight fruit

An heirloom favorite, Golden Summer Crookneck has a slightly curved neck and butter yellow skin with a mild, nutty flavour. Bush plants will produce all season long if picked regularly. Best harvested at about 20cm (8″).

C. pepo. Sunburst scallopini seeds produce a big bush bearing vivid deep yellow pattypans that look like jewels. These dazzling miniatures are best picked at 5cm (2″). Steam them whole or saut̩ée in a little butter. These tasty summer squash remain tender up to about 15cm (6″) in diameter, but we prefer picking them shortly after pollination. The female flowers can also be picked the morning they open and stuffed, with the immature fruit ovary attached at the base. This makes a very striking addition to any gourmet meal, and the edible flowers are mild and delicious. Winner of the RHS Award of Garden Merit.

C. moschata. Tromboncino squash seeds produce rambling vines with very long, pale green Italian summer squash. Tromboncino fruits can grow to 2m (6′) long, with a tiny seed cavity just at the blossom end. Flavourful and firm, the seedless texture is a treat in the kitchen. This unusual squash has a mild flavour, but it is great when steamed, stir-fried, or even pickled. Trellis Tromboncino to get straight fruits (they will form hanging down), but the unique shapes of fruits that form on the ground are really fun. Harvest while still tender at 20-45cm (8-18″) long.

Matures in 80 days.

The raw seeds of Golden Sesame resemble the toasted seeds of white sesame. Once they are fully dry they turn a nice golden brown colour. The flavour is somewhat milder than the Black Sesame kind, but still tasty and appealing. Use this variety to grind into tahini, or toast the seeds and sprinkle them over salads or sushi. The subtle crunch and flavour really elevates nearly any dish. Remember that the plants are heat and drought loving. Any steps that will add heat will improve productivity. Try growing them in a raised bed with no irrigation. In our field trials, black plastic mulch seemed to produce a good response. This plant is excellent for xeriscaping and for attracting pollinators.

Matures in 75-110 days.

This is a standard mainstay of fall and winter harvest daikon radishes from Japan. The enormous roots can grow to 30-38cm (12-15″) long and 6-8cm (2.5-3.25″) in diameter. They keep very well as the soil cools down into early winter, and then they store well after harvest. The flesh is mild and crunchy, and very nice in pickles and kimchi. There is some variability to the ends between pointy and stubbed. Miyashige White Neck daikon radish seeds are for July and August sowing. This is a great crop to follow Minowase Summer Cross, which can be planted much earlier.

C. pepo. While they are edible and actually quite tasty, most growers choose Jack Be Little pumpkin seeds for the compact vines and tiny, undeniably cute miniature pumpkins that follow. Each flattened, deeply-ribbed fruit measures only 5cm (2″) tall and about 13cm (5″) across the top. If cured fully on the vine, the fruits will last as ornaments for as long as twelve months! Jack Be Little makes perfect little bright orange pumpkins for fall decorations, and each plant produces up to eight fruits. Be sure to keep one or two for dicing into fall soups or slicing thin for tempura.

Matures in 95 days

The aptly named Trinidad Moruga Scorpion is an extremely hot pepper native to the region of Moruga in Trinidad and Tobago. Although it has clocked in at 2 million SHUs at its most potent, on average the peppers are in the 1.2 million Scoville heat unit range. The small, puckered fruits mature from green through orange and then to a deep red, at which point the flavour is the most refined and fruity. This species of pepper can be grown as a perennial in warmer climates (or heated greenhouses) or brought inside over winter. To mature in most regions, they will need to be grown with protection for the added heat and to lengthen the growing season. Can be grown in containers.

Super-hot peppers can be somewhat challenging to grow. The seeds can be difficult to germinate, and they need a long, hot season to produce fruit. Start indoors early and use bottom heat and seedling domes to create the warm, humid conditions they need to germinate. Be patient as germination may take 21-28 days or longer, even under ideal conditions.

Biquinho Red peppers grow on highly ornamental plants that form a canopy of dangling fruits above stems just 50cm (20″) tall. They look amazing in containers. Named for the “little beak” or pointed tip, these mildly hot chilies originated in Brazil. They can be enjoyed raw or cooked, but they are ideal for pickling. Each fruit is just over one inch long, very round, with that distinctive pointed tip. We recommend growing with some protection in most regions to ripen these late maturing peppers. 500 to 1000 SHUs.
